What is Gender Equality?

 

 Gender equality is when people of different genders have equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities. 

 

What is Gender Inequality?


Gender inequality is when one sex or gender is consistently privileged or prioritized over another due to discrimination based on sex or gender. Gender inequality has an impact on everyone, including women, men, trans and gender diverse persons, children, and families. It affects people of all ages and from all sorts of backgrounds. 




Why do we need Gender Equality?

 

We urgently require gender equality. Gender equality protects women and girls from abuse. It is necessary for economic growth. Women and men are valued equally in societies that are safer and healthier. Equality between men and women is a fundamental human right. Gender equality helps everyone. 


What can be done to stop Gender Inequality?


  1. Reduce socialization by parents and other adults of girls and boys into traditional gender roles.

  2. Confront gender stereotyping by the popular and news media.

  3. Increase public consciousness of the reasons for, extent of, and consequences of rape and sexual assault, sexual harassment, and pornography.

  4. Increase enforcement of existing laws against gender-based employment discrimination and against sexual harassment.

                                 Inequality  It is a sad truth that in our day and time, inequality is still an issue. It is present in many different aspects: skin color, body shape, gender, sexual preferences… This inequality comes from the way our societies are brainwashed when it comes to standards, and superiority. For example, in Lebanon, it is a very common belief that women with a darker skin color, can only work as maids. Moreover, it is stated in multiple articles in the magazine “Al-Jazeera” that there is in fact racial discrimination across Lebanon. In one article, it is stated that 80% of employers do not allow an off day for their maids, which is act against basic human rights.
